bb Charity Halloween Quiz

Bennettbrooks Halloween quiz in aid of The Russell IPM foundation raising funds for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Chester.

It was a wet and windy Monday evening that saw over 100 entrants in 13 teams rise to the challenge of the Halloween Quiz. Andrew Hamilton provided the questions, and the evening was hosted by the effervescent Andrew Davies. The venue at Alexanders in Rufus Court, Chester was fabulously decorated with broomsticks, spiders and cobwebs by Tina and Maureen, and their respective children. The room was scattered with hand carved pumpkins, some branded ones lovingly carved by Ben and some more traditional ones carved by Tina and Nia. Maureen even brought along her DJ friend Andrew Boyce, to add to the ambience, although I am delighted to report that there was no dancing on the tables, there were far too many people there for that.

The evening started with a picture round, during which 100 lucky ducks were sold, all individually numbered, in eager anticipation of the raffle draw to be held later in the evening. A wonderful buffet was served before the teams settled to the core questions. There room lulled to a quiet hum as the teams discussed their results, or was that the hum of iphones I could hear, surely not……

After a tense time of concentration and debate, the answer sheets were collected and marked by independent adjudicators whilst the auction commenced. The weeks stay in a Portuguese villa went for a song at £550, a successful bid from one of the Young Professionals, swiftly followed by the week in a Spanish apartment for £275, another lucky Young Professional. Our own Adrian was successful in bidding £160 for the Peckforton package, and Paul Dyne of Dynes Solicitors snapped up the Crowne Plaza overnight stay for £100. The football signed by Suarez went to a friend of Maureen’s for £70, and Simon Tasker bid £50 for a full tour of Anfield. The Everton experience went to Mark Fearnell for £45. Diana of Russell’s is looking forward to her meal for two at Residence Bar in Nantwich, a bargain at £60. Chloe and Sharon spent £40 on a segway safari at Carden Park, which could be a hoot if they spend their hour chasing our team of Christmas golfers on 16 December. Finally, I treated Paul to a round of golf at Prenton for £75.

The quiz winners were announced, Dyne Solicitors wiped the floor with the competition, with a massive 45 points out of 60. Well done to you all, I hope you enjoy those lovely bottles of wine, 2 of which were donated by Bargain Booze in Mold.

And finally the ducks emerged for their 15 minutes of glory. With a wide range of donated gifts to choose from, including more golf, a Specsavers voucher, alcohol, chocolates, a plant and yes, the requisite cuddly toy, I am not sure how Adrian managed to walk away with a lip gloss gift set.

The grand total raised for the evening was £3060

On a more serious note I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody that has been involved with organising and supporting this event. It has been a great team effort, spearheaded by Tina and Maureen.

A huge thank you to all the staff who took time out on a Monday evening to support the event, the feedback has been brilliant and a jolly good time was had by all.

Here are some photos of the event:
